The NU-X Verdugo Series Tape Echo Effects Pedal is an affordable full-featured tribute to the 1974 Japanese-made Space Echo. The '74 Space Echo records incoming audio to a loop of magnetic tape, then replays the continuous loop over the playback head before it is erased again by new incoming audio. The Space Echo used standard 1/4" tape, which is designed to spool onto trape-reels, but instead of using reels, the Space Echo transports the tape via a capstan drive; the tape is then contained in a loose, constantly moving pile in the tape tank, under a plastic panel that protects the tape and stops it from tangling. This ground-breaking technique resulted in less unwanted noise, wow and flutter, and maintained the tape in better condition.
